The deputy, Alireza Salavati, as speaking to IMNA reporter declared: increasing connected bike lanes stands top on the municipality’s agenda in order to return Isfahan to its distant past, known as “the City of Bicycles”.
He considers the high number of bike riders in the city as the culture expansion for biking, confirming: bicycle is a small, inexpensive, and comfortable vehicle which is among the urban practical transportation vehicles in many countries like China, India, Netherlands, Malaysia, France etc.
He reminded that one of the plans to increase bikers’ safety in Isfahan is to create connected bicycle networks in the city.
Salavati explained: “we are seeking to create connected bicycle networks in the whole city. The first parts of the city to be provided with safe and connected bike lanes will be districts 1, 3, 5, and 6.
50 bicycle shop participated in the campaign of “Come for Bicycles”, selling 12 billion tomans (about 4 billion USA dollars) in a month only, explained Salavati.
He further reminded: There are now 50 bicycle stands throughout the city. Isfahan citizens can deposit an identity card to borrow a bicycle and ride to the nearest stand around their destination to return the bike, because mechanized connection has been established between the stands.
