Iran Defense Minister Vows Military Buildup for 'No-Geographical-Limits' Response to Threats

Iranian Defense Minister Mehrdad Akhlaghi stated that Iran is committed to enhancing the combat capabilities of its armed forces to respond to any threat "anywhere and without geographical limitations."

Iran (IMNA) - According to Iran's official news agency IRNA and Press TV, Akhlaghi made these remarks in a message on Sunday (November 1, 2026), reaffirming the Defense Ministry's determination to implement the strategic directives of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. He stated that the Leader's directives have charted the "roadmap and strategic direction" for Iran's defense system and emphasized that the ministry will prioritize accelerating the cycle of design, production, and supply of defense equipment and weapons, strengthening industrial and technological infrastructure, and enhancing support capabilities for the armed forces.

Akhlaghi warned that any act of aggression will be met with a "proportionate, decisive, and effective" response, and stressed that "the scope, timing, and consequences of Iran's defensive response will not be determined by those who issue threats". He also mentioned the need to pursue technological breakthroughs and confront adversaries' calculations with new realities and intelligent solutions.

Akhlaghi, an engineer and industrial manager by background with extensive experience in Iran's missile and aerospace industries, was approved by parliament as defense minister in October 2026, succeeding his predecessor who was killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes in February of the same year.
