The Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude to the Iraqi government and people for hosting the OIC meeting, emphasizing the need to make greater use of the organization’s capacities to address challenges facing the Muslim world, particularly the Palestinian issue and the Israeli regime’s expansionist policies and warmongering.
Highlighting the close ties between the two neighboring Muslim countries, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s determination to further strengthen relations with Iraq across all areas of mutual interest.
Outlining Iran’s positions on peace and stability in West Asia, Araqchi identified the Israeli regime’s occupation and expansionism as the root causes of insecurity in the region. He noted that over the past three years, the regime had carried out military aggression against Lebanon, Syria and Iran while committing genocide in Palestine, actions he said had endangered global peace and security.
Araqchi also stressed Iran’s commitment to diplomatic efforts to prevent further regional instability. He said the United States had repeatedly disrupted diplomatic processes by reneging on its commitments and resorting to force, contributing to insecurity in international commercial shipping.
During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister and the Iraqi prime minister also discussed the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, possible ways to help end the naval blockade of Yemen, and efforts to reduce regional tensions.
