Iran ready for long-term partnership with EAEU: VP

- Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref has emphasized the Islamic Republic’s readiness to play an active role alongside member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and develop long-term economic and regional cooperation with the bloc.

Iran (IMNA) - In a message to a meeting of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council, read late Friday by Iran’s ambassador to Belarus in the presence of prime ministers and senior officials from EAEU member states, Aref said Iran is prepared to serve as an active, reliable and long-term partner in expanding economic and regional cooperation with the Union.

Aref noted the growing connection between political and economic security, stressing that Iran supports genuine multilateralism, mutual respect and equal rights for nations. He described the EAEU as an important platform for strengthening regional cooperation.

The Iranian vice president also expressed appreciation to the government and people of Belarus, particularly the country’s prime minister, for hosting the meeting. He said Iran’s participation alongside Eurasian nations provides a valuable opportunity to discuss current developments and help shape a future roadmap for cooperation among the Union’s member states.

Aref condemned what he described as military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, saying such actions constitute a blatant violation of fundamental principles of international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent states.

Referring to damage to civilian facilities and harm inflicted on Iranian civilians, including at Minab Elementary School, he stressed the need to uphold the principles and rules of international law.

Aref further said that opposing unilateralism does not mean defending any particular country. Rather, he stated, opposition to unilateralism means defending state sovereignty, free trade, economic independence, and the right of nations to determine their own development paths and choose their partners.
