Iran (IMNA) - Speaking to Iranian journalists in New York, Araghchi said Iran had maintained an active and effective presence at this year’s UN General Assembly.
He noted that President Masoud Pezeshkian, who returned to Tehran earlier on Saturday, held numerous interviews and meetings and delivered an important speech at the UNGA, while Araghchi also held a series of meetings with his foreign counterparts and other officials.
Araghchi said that explaining and defending Iran’s conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz was the priority in all of these meetings, both those held by the president and his own diplomatic engagements.
He added that Iran’s conditions were also presented in full to mediators, who subsequently conveyed them to the American side.
According to Araghchi, Iran defended the logic behind its conditions and its broader diplomatic approach during the meetings. He said the international community had recognized Iran’s ability to defend the country while also demonstrating strength in diplomacy, particularly through the proposals Tehran has put forward.
The Iranian foreign minister said the proposals were communicated through interviews and meetings and were subsequently conveyed to the US side by mediators. He added that the US president had given an initial reaction, but no further response had yet been received through the mediators.
Araghchi said the US president had made mixed and, at times, contradictory statements, adding that Iran was awaiting a definitive position from the American side through the mediators before deciding on its next steps.
