Iran (IMNA) - In a post on X on Saturday, Araghchi addressed Barrot directly, recalling France’s colonial history in Algeria. He said that 1.5 million Algerians were killed during the country’s War of Independence and claimed that Paris has officially recorded fewer than one-tenth of those deaths and has not apologized for what he described as its colonial crimes.
“Stop your crocodile tears,” Araghchi said, referring to Barrot’s comments, and criticized what he described as the French government’s silence following the US attack on Iranian schoolchildren.
Araghchi was referring to the February 28 strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, southern Iran, which took place on the first day of the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran. According to the Iranian account cited by Araghchi, the attack killed 168 people, including 120 students and 26 teachers, while more than 110 others were wounded.
Investigations cited in the report indicate that three precision-strike Tomahawk missiles hit the school, with the site struck three times.
The remarks came shortly after a United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission said there were “reasonable grounds” to believe US forces had committed war crimes in Iran. The mission cited two incidents involving attacks that caused significant civilian casualties, including the strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh School.
The UN findings also addressed alleged human rights violations inside Iran, including actions by Iranian authorities during the 2025–2026 protests. Thus, the UN findings cited in recent reporting cover allegations concerning both the conduct of US forces during the conflict and the treatment of protesters inside Iran.
