Iran urges US citizens to reject debt-for-war recruitment

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has urged US citizens to reject an Israeli proposal to recruit debt-burdened American students to fight in what he described as an illegal war against Iran.

Iran (IMNA) – In a post on X on Saturday, Baghaei responded to an opinion article published by an Israeli media outlet that proposed using Americans with student-loan and credit-card debt for military recruitment to sustain the war with Iran.

“Americans, ask yourselves one question: Why should your sons and daughters be offered debt forgiveness in exchange for fighting and dying in a war Israel wants continued & expanded?” Baghaei wrote.

He said the opinion column in The Jerusalem Post was “openly floating exactly that idea,” namely using student-loan and credit-card debt as an incentive to recruit Americans for war with Iran.

“Your lives. Your taxes. Someone else’s war,” he added.

“Do not let anyone turn you into the cannon fodder — and the bill — for a war you never chose,” Baghaei warned.

He concluded by urging Americans not to allow their children to be turned into “mercenaries for their illegal ‘war of choice.’”
