Iran (IMNA) - According to an IRGC statement issued on Monday, ballistic missiles struck the King Hussein and al-Azraq U.S. airbases in Jordan, targeting technical and maintenance infrastructure as well as aircraft deployment areas. The IRGC said the strikes inflicted heavy damage on the facilities and destroyed technical and repair infrastructure and positions used for fighter aircraft.
The IRGC said the operation was conducted in response to an air attack by what it described as the “American-Zionist enemy” against Larak Island. It warned that “aggression and crime” would not overcome the enemy’s failure to weaken Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, adding that every attack would be met with “more crushing responses.”
The IRGC statement also praised the Iranian people for what it described as “183 nights of uninterrupted epic presence in the field,” saying their continued presence had astonished the enemy and given hope to oppressed people.
Meanwhile, the IRGC Navy said a supertanker attempting to transit an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz struck two naval mines and caught fire, bringing the vessel to a complete stop.
In a statement, the IRGC Navy said the tanker had attempted to use a prohibited southern route and was subsequently hit by two sea mines, resulting in severe fires. The force again warned that vessels violating its security regulations for transit through the Strait of Hormuz would face the same fate.
“Compliance with the rules announced by the IRGC Navy for transit is mandatory,” the statement said, warning shipping companies not to be misled by what it called provocations by the “child-killing American army” or unnecessarily expose their vessels and crews to destruction.
Separately, the UK’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a delayed report of a tanker being struck while transiting inbound through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the UKMTO notice, the incident occurred 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) north of the Omani port town of Khasab. The notice did not specify when the incident took place and said authorities were investigating. No casualties or environmental impact were reported.
The IRGC also said its air-defense forces had shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC public relations office said its “ever-watchful fighters of the IRGC’s modern air defence” used missile fire early Monday to strike the long-range U.S. drone. The aircraft subsequently crashed into the waters of the Persian Gulf.
The IRGC statement again highlighted what it described as the continued presence of the Iranian people in the field, calling it the greatest support for the country’s fighters.
