Over 500,000 Iranian pilgrims traveled from Iran to Karbala on Friday to visit the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s grandson.

Iran (IMNA) - On Friday, a local official reported that more than 500,000 pilgrims passed along the Khosravi border crossing.

The 40-day period of mourning that began when the third Shia Imam and his devoted companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala on Muharram 10, 680 CE, comes to a conclusion on Arbaeen, which happens on September 6 this year.

Arbaeen is a significant day for Shia Muslims as it marks the end of the mourning period and is observed with processions, prayers, and gatherings. It is a time for reflection on the sacrifices made by Imam Hussein and his followers, and serves as a reminder of their unwavering faith and courage.

The Khosravi border crossing serves as a crucial gateway for these pilgrims, facilitating their journey to pay homage to Imam Hossein.
