Millions of people joined Quds Day marches in Iran and other Muslim nations to express sympathy with the oppressed Palestinian people and to condemn Israeli brutality.
Iran (IMNA) - The marchers intended to convey to the world the plight of Palestinians and to condemn Israeli atrocities that have escalated this year, particularly since the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
Ten routes were set up around the Iranian capital, with people from all walks of life marching to the historic Enqelab (revolution) Square.
Every year on the last Friday of Ramadan, global demonstrations are organized to support the Palestinian people's fight against Israel and the battle to free their occupied areas since 1967.
The yearly event is viewed as a chance for people of all faiths throughout the world to express their solidarity for the Palestinian cause and their indignation against Israel.
The International Quds Day is one of the legacies of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is honored as a spiritual leader by Muslims worldwide. Ayatollah Khomeini designated the final Friday of Ramadan as Quds Day in 1979, shortly after leading an Islamic Revolution.
The marchers hailed unity and cooperation throughout the Muslim world as the key to victory over global arrogant forces and their plots.
The demonstrators also emphasized the importance of strengthening support for the anti-Israel resistance front, claiming that it is the only realistic approach to resolving the Palestinian issue as the Muslim world's first and primary concern.
The marchers also decried Israeli incursions on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and assaults on Palestinian worshipers, describing them as part of Tel Aviv's efforts to flee the current political and economic upheaval.
Finally, the protesters condemned the silence and inaction of international institutions and human rights institutions in the face of "barbaric" Israeli crimes, urging the UN to suspend Israel's membership and then expel the "occupying, racist, and child-killing Zionist regime" from the world body and other international bodies.
Israel has placed severe limitations on the movement of Palestinians into and out of the gates of the al-Aqsa Mosque ever since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Israeli settlers continue their regular invasions and provocative ceremonies at the holy site despite the escalating hostilities with Palestinian worshipers.
