In a significant development, Sri Lanka inaugurated the 120 MW Uma Oya multi-purpose project on Wednesday in the presence of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi. The project, which includes two dams and a 19-kilometer water transmission pipe, boasts a power plant located at a depth of 750 meters.

Iran (IMNA) - One of the key features of the Uma Oya project is its capacity to irrigate 5 thousand hectares of Sri Lankan agricultural lands, providing a vital resource for the country's agricultural sector.

President Raeisi's visit to Sri Lanka on Wednesday morning marked the beginning of talks with officials from the South Asian nation and participation in various inauguration ceremonies. The Iranian President's one-day trip to Sri Lanka was extended as an invitation from his Sri Lankan counterpart.
