Iranian Foreign Minister Meets Hamas Leader Amidst UN Calls for Gaza Ceasefire

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Ismail Haniyeh, the Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, in Tehran on Tuesday.

Iran (IMNA) - The discussions took place at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Haniyeh was officially welcomed by Amir-Abdollahian. Later in the day, both leaders are expected to hold a joint press conference.

Haniyeh's visit to Iran comes as the United Nations Security Council urges an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The conflict began on October 7th when the Palestinian Hamas Resistance group carried out a historic operation against Israel, in response to the regime's escalating violence against the Palestinian people.

Israel, backed by the United States, has been waging war on Gaza. Since the conflict started, at least 32,142 Palestinians, many of them women and children, have been killed, and 74,412 others injured. The Israeli regime is also accused of intentionally starving the people in Gaza by blocking their access to food, which is considered a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute.
