Sapling Planting Project Gains Momentum with 20 Million Seedlings Planted in Four Weeks
On December 30, 2023, Reza Ahmadi, an official with the Department of Environment, announced that since the beginning of the One Billion Sapling Planting Project, a total of 20 million seedlings have been planted across Iran in a four-week period, with the active participation of people and organizations. The Forests, Rangelands, and Watershed Management Organization (FRWMO) is prioritizing the cultivation of drought-resistant plants to prevent pasture destruction.
Abbas-Ali Nobakht, the head of the FRWMO, revealed that the implementation of this ambitious plan is divided into three parts. Government organizations, industries, and public institutions will each be responsible for one part of the project. In July 2023, the FRWMO had planned to produce and plant one billion saplings across the country over a four-year period.
