Two New Warships Join IRGC Fleet

In a ceremony held in Bandar Abbas, Iran on Monday, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) received two new warships from the Shahid Soleimani-class. The catamarans, named Shahid Sayyad Shirazi and Shahid Hassan Bagheri, honor legendary Iranian military commanders known for their heroics during the 1980s war.

Iran (IMNA) - At a ceremony in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, two new warships from the Shahid Soleimani-class were delivered to the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC). The two catamarans, Shahid Sayyad Shirazi and Shahid Hassan Bagheri, are named after legendary Iranian military commanders known for their heroics during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. The ceremony was attended by top military officials including Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC Navy commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri.

During the ceremony, General Bagheri highlighted the progress in Iran's naval capabilities and emphasized the armed forces' readiness to defend the country's sovereignty. Rear Admiral Tangsiri provided details about the two new warships, describing their stealth capabilities and advanced features including vertical launchers for naval and cruise missiles. These warships, with a range of 5,500 nautical miles, significantly enhance Iran's operational reach in the region. The new warships add to the Shahid Soleimani-class which includes the first model named after Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.
