Iran Vows to Seek Justice for Soleimani Assassination in Letter to UN Secretary General

In a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the head of the Iranian mission to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, reaffirmed Iran's determination to pursue justice for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani.

Iran (IMNA) - The letter, sent on Tuesday, stated that Iran reserves the right to pursue the case and hold accountable the countries, organizations, and individuals involved in the US government's 2020 assassination of the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. General Soleimani was martyred in a US drone strike near the Baghdad International Airport in January 2020. Iran has vowed to employ legal means to achieve justice in this matter.

Iran Asserts Right to Pursue Legal Action for Soleimani's Assassination, Accuses US and Israel

In a letter, the Islamic Republic of Iran's diplomat, Iravani, stated that Iran is determined to seek justice and hold accountable those responsible for the "reprehensible act of terrorism" involving the assassination of General Soleimani. Iravani emphasized that this action falls within Iran's legitimate right under international law.

The diplomat further condemned the United States for breaching its international obligations through the "cowardly assassination" of General Soleimani, describing it as a blatant violation of international law. Iravani also highlighted the alleged involvement of the Israeli regime in the assassination, pointing to statements made by former Israeli intelligence officials. Additionally, the diplomat claimed that the US utilized the Ramstein Airbase in Germany for the execution of the assassination.

Iran Holds Responsible Countries Involved in Soleimani Assassination and Seeks Justice Through UN

In a letter published by the official news agency IRNA, Iran's representative, Iravani, stated that aside from the United States, all those who aided, abetted, or supported the assassination of General Soleimani will be held responsible for their involvement in this terrorist act. Iravani emphasized that both direct and indirect assistance would be taken into account.

Furthermore, Iran sent a letter to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reaffirming its commitment to pursuing justice for the perpetrators and abettors of General Soleimani's assassination. Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva highlighted that the assassination violated international humanitarian law, as it eliminated a key figure in the regional fight against terrorism.
