Iran's UN Representative Condemns Israeli Assassination of Iranian Military Advisor in Syria

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has strongly denounced the recent assassination of a senior Iranian military advisor in Syria by the Israeli regime.

Iran (IMNA) - In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Iravani expressed Iran's outrage and emphasized that the country retains its lawful and inherent right, as outlined in international law and the United Nations Charter, to respond resolutely at a suitable time when deemed necessary.

Senior IRGC Commander Martyred in Israeli Missile Attack in Damascus

Brigadier General Seyyed Razi Mousavi, a high-ranking commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), was killed on Monday in a missile strike launched by the Israeli regime. The attack targeted the Sayyeda Zeinab neighborhood in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Mousavi was serving as part of Iran's military advisory mission in Syria at the time of his martyrdom.

The mission, established in 2014, was the first to respond to Syria's call for assistance when the country faced the threat of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, which was created by the United States and supported by Israel. Under the leadership of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, Iran's top anti-terror commander who was tragically assassinated by the US in Iraq four years ago, the mission played a crucial role in Syria's successful campaign against terrorism. The concerted efforts of the mission ultimately led to the defeat of the terrorist organization in late 2017.

Iranian Envoy Condemns Assassination of Military Advisors in Syria, Calls for Security Council Action

In a strongly-worded statement, Iranian envoy Iravani denounced the recent assassination of Iranian military advisors in Syria as a "heinous and cowardly act of terrorism." He emphasized that these advisors were legally present in Syria at the formal request of the Syrian Arab Republic, providing support in the fight against terrorism.

Iravani highlighted that this was the second assault on Iranian advisors this month, following a similar attack on December 2 that was attributed to the Israeli regime. The envoy called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its charter obligation in maintaining international peace and security by condemning the Israeli regime's malevolent activities and acts of aggression and terrorism in the region.
