Iran leading way in offering services to people with disabilities

December 3 marks the global observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). This year, the theme is "United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities." The IDPD aims to highlight the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Iran (IMNA) - At the core of 2023's theme is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was adopted by UN member countries in 2015. The SDGs serve as a beacon for creating a more inclusive and sustainable world by 2030.

Ensuring the active participation of people with disabilities is crucial in achieving these goals. Their valuable perspectives and contributions must be central to decision-making processes and policy implementations.

The IDPD seeks to raise awareness about the benefits that arise from integrating persons with disabilities into all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life. By fostering a society that values and includes individuals with disabilities, we can create a more just and prosperous future for all.

Health Insurance Organization Provides Extensive Services to Persons with Disabilities, Including Rehabilitation with 70% Coverage

Iran is making significant strides in providing services to persons with disabilities. The Health Insurance Organization is at the forefront of this effort, offering a comprehensive range of 59 services tailored specifically to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.

These services cover various aspects of healthcare, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary support and treatment. Among the services provided are 14 services in orthopedics, addressing issues related to bone and muscle health. Additionally, there are 6 services in occupational health, focusing on improving workplace conditions and ensuring a safe working environment.

Recognizing the importance of hearing health, the Health Insurance Organization offers 9 services in hearing aids. This ensures that individuals with hearing impairments have access to the necessary devices and technologies to enhance their quality of life. Furthermore, there are 6 services in physiotherapy, aimed at improving mobility and physical well-being.

Speech therapy is another vital service provided, with 11 dedicated services available. These services aim to address speech and language disorders, enabling individuals to communicate effectively. Rehabilitation services, consisting of 6 services, play a crucial role in helping individuals recover and regain independence after an injury or illness.

Lastly, the Health Insurance Organization offers 7 services in optometry, emphasizing the importance of vision health. Through these services, individuals with visual impairments can receive the necessary support and treatments to improve their eyesight.

The commitment to providing these services is further demonstrated by the vast network of rehabilitation centers in Iran. Currently, there are 4,261 rehabilitation centers that have entered into a health insurance contract. This expansive network ensures that individuals with disabilities have access to rehabilitation services conveniently.

Individuals who are covered by the welfare organization and have registered their names in the health insurance systems can benefit from these services with 70 percent insurance coverage. This coverage allows individuals to receive the necessary rehabilitation services without financial burden.

Iran's dedication to providing comprehensive services to persons with disabilities is commendable. By offering a wide range of specialized services and establishing a vast network of rehabilitation centers, the country is ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the support and care they need to lead fulfilling lives.
