Arbaeen pilgrimage: some 35,000 Iranians cross Khosravi border post in day

About 35,000 Iranian pilgrims traveled from Iran to Karbala on Saturday to visit the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s grandson.

Iran (IMNA) - On Saturday, a local official reported that "more than 35,700 pilgrims, of whom 34,950 were Iranian nationals, passed along the Khosravi border crossing."

Since August 18 to the present, the official said that over 93,100 pilgrims have passed via the border crossing.

According to data made public by the Iranian government, more than 700,000 Iranian pilgrims have traveled to Iraq through the six border crossings along the country's shared border with Iraq, a 43% rise from the previous year.

The infrastructure and relief supplies at the border for Arbaeen pilgrims were inspected by the Iranian interior and health ministries during their weekend visit to the joint border crossings.

The 40-day period of mourning that began when the third Shia Imam and his devoted companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala on Muharram 10, 680 CE, comes to a conclusion on Arbaeen, which happens on September 6 this year.
