340 Billion barrels of oil are included in Iran's hydrocarbon reserves

According to the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Iran is the largest owner of combined oil and gas reserves in the world, with hydrocarbon reserves totaling 340 billion barrels of crude oil.

Iran (IMNA) - As reported by Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr, Iran has 400 total oil and gas reserves and now has 230 drilling rigs, or platforms, working in its offshore oil and gas sectors. He also said that Iran has 13,000 kilometers of underwater oil and gas pipelines in operation.

In a meeting with Iranian civil defense authorities in Tehran, Khojasteh Mehr revealed the numbers while issuing a warning about the country's vulnerability in the upcoming years due to overconsumption of natural gas and oil products and the country's expanding energy demand.

According to him, Iran uses the equivalent of 7 million barrels of crude oil per day, and 99.5% of the country's energy requirements are met by oil and gas.

7 million barrels of crude oil are said to be equivalent to 1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas, according to experts. Iran already produces just over 1 bcm of gas per day, primarily for use in homes for cooking and heating or in power plants to generate electricity.

The government has started $18 billion worth of rehabilitation and repair projects in the oil and gas industry, according to Khojasteh Mehr, who also holds the position of deputy oil minister, to eliminate dangers that might be presented to the nation's production and distribution networks due to aged equipment.
