FM: Iran ready to support any regional effort on Afghanistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has stated that the Islamic Republic is willing to help forward regional efforts in Afghanistan under the auspices of the United Nations.

Iran (IMNA) - On Monday, Amir-Abdollahian met with Feridun Hadi Sinirlioglu, the UN Secretary-General's Special Coordinator for the independent evaluation process in Afghanistan.

He emphasized the need for forming an inclusive administration in Afghanistan and combating terrorism, as well as supporting regional efforts, notably the framework of neighbors, in order to address the issues in the war-torn country.

"Afghanistan requires immediate solutions, and if the international community does not pay serious attention to the country's security challenges caused by terrorist group movements, the region and the world will suffer, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated.

Amir-Abdollahian went on to describe Sinirlioglu's mission as "difficult," expressing optimism that the UN official would have a more realistic view of the facts on the ground in Afghanistan as a result of his experience and complete his job effectively.

Sinirlioglu, for his part, provided his appraisal of Afghanistan's developments and the country's status in several domains.

He also emphasized the UN's willingness to assist regional initiatives in Afghanistan aimed at forming an inclusive government.
