All Iranian provinces to home infertility treatment facilities

Infertility treatment facilities will be built in every province, according to Health Minister Bahram Einollahi.

One of the ministry's key population projects, he continued, has been the establishment of 103 level 3 infertility treatment clinics.

The Ministry of Health took measures to reorganize the organizational structure, create the general directorate for population, and hire qualified and dedicated managers in this area in response to the population crisis.

The minister predicted that more than 30% of the population will be elderly by the [Iranian calendar year] 1430 (March 2051–March 2052) and said, "If we do not find a solution to overcome the population crisis in the next six years, we will face many problems in the future."

The Ministry of Health has established a nationwide network to offer reproductive treatments at three levels.

According to deputy health minister Saeed Karimi, people seeking treatment for infertility go to level-one facilities and are sent to levels two and three if they require expert care.

As Karimi said, level-two clinics for infertility treatment services were previously unavailable in the country.

The country should have 64 level-two infertility treatment clinics established by the beginning of the next year, according to the health minister. Currently, Iran has 16 level-two facilities.

According to him, level-two infertility treatment facilities can handle about 85% of infertility cases. He also mentioned that there are now 103 level-three infertility treatment facilities operating in the country.

He came to the conclusion that insurance now covers around 90% of inpatient expenditures and 70% of outpatient costs associated with infertility treatment services, whereas it previously did not cover these costs.

In Iran, 10.5% of the population was expected to be over 60 in 2020. The percentage of people over 60 is expected to reach 33 percent in 2050.

Also, about 7 percent of the population was over 65 years old in 2020. In 2030, the population over 65 is forecast to increase by about 10 percent.

Considering the negative consequences of population decline in the lives of families and the negative effects of aging and population aging in the coming years, necessary measures should be taken to promote the culture and improve people's attitudes towards having children.
