Iran seeks to bolster economic and commercial relations with Kazakhstan

Iran's President Ebrahim Raeisi praises the existing level of advancement in bilateral relations with Kazakhstan, but seeks greater expansion, particularly in economic and commercial fields.

Iran (IMNA) - The president delivered remarks on Wednesday while speaking with Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov of Kazakhstan, who was in Tehran on a visit.

The chief executive admitted that there had been "remarkable" progress in the area of bilateral commerce over the previous year, naming Kazakhstan as one of the prominent nations in the Eurasia region.

However, Raeisi pointed out that "efforts must be doubled towards its [further] enhancement" because the current level of relations is "not proportional to the capacities of the two countries."

"However, this level of relations is not proportional to the two countries' capacities, and efforts must be doubled to [further] improve it," Raeisi stated.

The Iranian official also emphasized the importance of "investment in transit infrastructures from Central Asia to the Persian Gulf," "development of transportation to facilitate bilateral trade cooperation," "increased agricultural cooperation," and "application of innovative mechanisms in the monetary and banking sectors."

Meanwhile, Raeisi advised that more attention be paid to the development of Iran-Kazakhstan "cultural and civilizational" connections, believing that the formation of a joint cultural committee is required to achieve the goal.

The Kazakh official, for his part, underlined his country's interest in developing and expanding ties with the Islamic Republic, while also noting that the existing level of cooperation did not adequately reflect the capacities at hand.

"The scale of the countries' relations is not commensurate with the existing capacities," he declared, adding that a "plan of action" for the development of future bilateral collaboration had been developed as a result.
