Iran's yearly tea imports reached historical high of $665 million

In accordance with estimates from Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) , the country's yearly tea imports achieved an all-time high in the calendar year to late March.

Iran (IMNA) - According to IRICA numbers published in a Saturday report by the IRIB News, tea imports into Iran surpassed $665 million in the fiscal year ending March 20, up 45.9% over the previous year.

IRICA reported that Iran has received tea supply from ten countries throughout the world, but did not name them.

This comes after the country struck a $250 million arrangement with Sri Lanka in December 2021 to import tea from the Indian Ocean Island in exchange for arrears owing for energy product supply the previous year.

Iran's tea imports from India increased last year as both countries' trade relations improved.

According to IRICA estimates, Iran has a tea market of almost 100,000 metric tons (mt) per year, with 26,000 mt sourced from local farmers last calendar year.

According to the statistics, Iran's domestic tea production set a new record in the year ending in March, totaling 36,000 mt.

The report additionally demonstrated that tea exports from Iran hit a new high of 10,000 mt valued at $44.2 million last calendar year, up 34.8% in value terms from the year ending in late March 2022.

According to the Iranian Customs Office, up until the end of March last year, buyers in 26 additional countries received tea grown in Iran.
