Iran (IMNA) - An industry insider reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) is preparing to open a direct cargo route to Brazil.
Hamed Ghaderi, a member of the Iran-Brazil Joint Chamber of Commerce, stated on Monday that the establishment of a direct shipping route between Iran and Brazil will be a significant step forward in bilateral economic relations.
According to Ghaderi, the IRISL's intention to open offices in Brazil might assist Iranian exporters and enterprises in expanding their position in the Brazilian market.
Ghaderi stated, "Given the correspondences and efforts made, we hope this might happen in July."
Iran and Brazil have annual trading relations that worth billions of dollars. Brazil is a key exporter of grain and meat to Iran, while Iran contributes petrochemicals to Brazil, including much-needed urea exports.
In recent years, the IRISL has tried to expand its routes in response to Iran's efforts to increase foreign commerce and cargo transit earnings, as well as the country's efforts to diversify away from petroleum exports.
As part of initiatives to activate the International North-South Transport Corridor, which crosses through Iranian territory, the state-run firm has opened offices in Russia and India.
