Isfahan reaping benefits of sister cities in fight against pandemic

Referring to the current COVID-19 epidemiological situation affecting 213 countries and territories around the world, Iman Hojjati, the Director General of Communication and International Affairs Department at the Municipality of Isfahan noted, "taking advantage of Isfahan's sister cities' experiences on Coronavirus pandemic, we have been able to make a significant contribution in combating COVID-19."

Iran (IMNA) - "After the first cases emerged in Wuhan, we commenced to correspond with all sister cities to analyze the pandemic in territories," Hojjati said.

"Xi'an, the birthplace of Chinese civilization, recognized as the first sister city of Isfahan impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Against this background, the mayor of Isfahan sent a letter to the mayor of Xi'an and congratulated the Chinese New Year and announced Isfahan's alacrity to dispatch aid packages," he continued.

Hojjati went on to say that "Over the last few months, we have reaped the benefits on the capacity of Isfahan municipality's international affairs department to strengthen the ties that had diminished in recent years."

"The global network of Metropolis has launched a website https://www.citiesforglobalhealth.org to exchange the experiences of cities in the fight against coronavirus; Isfahan has also joined as a member and offered its experiences, getting the knack of curbing the devastating virus through creativity and initiatives of other cities," the Director General of Communication and International Affairs Department at the Municipality of Isfahan remarked.

"Isfahan is a member of 9 global cities networks, in correspondence with which Isfahan's experiences and initiatives on coronavirus pandemic have been shared. Conducting international communication was very productive and important in such crisis and we have been agile in the regard," he ended.
