Isfahan Needs an Entrance Symbol

A PHD holder in architecture said that Isfahan city entrance roads should be in harmony with the architecture and texture of the city in order to be acceptable to the public in terms of environmental psychology.

Isfahan (IMNA)_ Mehrnaz Ostowar stated that the entrances of Isfahan, especially the entrance road of Shahid Beheshti Airport, should be decorated with suitable urban elements that are in harmony with the texture of Isfahan.

She expressed that unfortunately the current architecture and urbanization of Isfahan have been away from the urban and Iranian architectural identity and continued: Today, the city architecture is an imitation of styles that are not in harmony with the texture of Isfahan.

Ostowar stressed: “In this regard, the city's entrances should also be in harmony with the architecture and texture of Isfahan to be acceptable by the public in terms of environmental psychology.”

This PHD holder pointed out that the cities like Isfahan, Yazd, and Kashan have their own architectural identity regarding color and material; so, they should be used to beautify the city entrances. she stressed that if we try to use suitable environmental elements, everyone can get the overall picture of Isfahan in a glance when entering the city.

Ostowar said that in designing the elements of urban design, special features of Isfahan culture, such as handicrafts, should be considered abstractly; even, the " Girih tiles"  which are used to create Islamic geometric pattern in mosques can be used in urban design indirectly.

She emphasized that the matter of urban lighting is also very influential in urban design and architecture and said: “urban lighting has recently been used to beautify underpasses and it should be also used at the entrances of the city.”

She added: “the combined light can be used to beautify urban trees or elements and create beautiful textures in the city entrances; of course, the color of the light is also important and should not be stunning which can lead to accidents.”
