Penner making is tied with Iran's art and culture; the most valuable paintings, miniature, illumination and woodcarving artworks of our old artists are engraved on penner.

Isfahan (IMNA) - In the near past, penner was considered as the most important writing instrument and the best factor in provoking and encouraging people of different classes to learn calligraphy. It's worth mentioning that Penner making boomed from the Safavid era.

The penners of Safavid era are among the most original artworks of the ancient era. By the advent of Islam, penner use became customary for writing; it was used in schools and courts. In the Seljuk era, since the poets, writers, and teachers were supported by Seljukid monarchs, penner making art sharply improved. This progress continued to the Timurid era.

The studies indicate the fact that in the Safavid era, when calligraphy reached its highest level of development, penner making art also reached its peak; the penners made in this era were considered to be the most expensive and exquisite cultural heritage in Iran.

The remaining penners of those days, engraved with gold and jewel and Quranic verses, now adorn the museums of Iran and other countries of the world. In the Qajar and Zandia eras, penner making art was also at its height and represent the art of Isfahan artists.

Today, Today, penners are not used a lot. However, those interested in Islamic arts continue to welcome and demand this artwork.
