Zero Discrimination Day

Zero Discrimination Day is observed annually by many countries across the globe on March 1 to promote equality in practice and before the law.

Iran (IMNA) - Every year on March 1, the world celebrates Zero Discrimination Day. The day intends to eradicate mental boundaries like sex, gender, race, age, income class, ethnicity and religion. The day is an attempt to view the world through the single lens of humanity. To ensure that all inequalities relating to social norms are quashed.

The day was first observed in 2014 and was launched by Michel Sidibe, the executive director of UNAIDS on Feb 27, 2014. As per a UN report, inequality is growing for more than 70% of the global population. The day comes at a time when the world is adjusting to the 'new normal' after fighting the COVID-19 pandemic for over a year.

For years, people from across the country have been fighting discrimination. Apartheid, patriarchy, healthcare, lynchings and hate crimes- are social evils that trace their roots to discrimination and inequality.

Promote inclusion, compassion and peace through personal efforts

Promoting inclusion, compassion and peace are tasks that should not be left only upon one day. Instead, a personal effort must be made to instil and promote these values.

Instead of judging people based on their social status, race, gender or orientation, become mindful of their struggles. Instead of stereotyping people and making assumptions, make attempts to see people based on their goals and achievements.

Do not stereotype people to prevent them from being targeted. Instead of crippling the images of people based on your prejudices, promote inclusion and give way to their thoughts and beliefs.

Zero Discrimination Day 2021 will be observed in order to take actions which can end the inequalities that continue to persist in the modern world. Moreover, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has hit the most vulnerable people the hardest. Even after a lot of countries have succeeded in making effective vaccines, its availability in economically backward countries remains uncertain.
