Iran (IMNA) - The two countries have a long history of economic, and socio-political interactions and have generally enjoyed very close relations after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

As for economic, political and cultural cooperation, many agreements have been signed between Iran and Russia. However, the conclusion of agreements between the two nations has not been limited to the areas of politics or economy, but cultural relations have been also a major focus of attention.

In this regard, Russia has not confined the relations to the capitals but has opened its consulates in Iranian cities of Rasht and Isfahan to enhance the bilateral cooperation with Iran.

Isfahan is one of the Iranian cities which holds the title of Iran's cultural capital; In Russia, Saint Petersburg is considered the Russian capital of art and culture. The cultural similarities between the two cities are to the extent that Saint Petersburg and Isfahan have been recognized as sister cities in 1998.

Recently, Mehmet Sanayi, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow visited the 2-hectares garden in the Frunzensky District of the federal city of StPetersburg , which will soon be opened under the name of Isfahan.

The construction of "Isfahan Park" in St Petersburg is based on one of the agreements between the governorates of Saint Petersburg and Isfahan in cooperation with the municipalities of the two cities.
