Iranian Narges Abyar’s ‘Breath’ Submitted for Oscars

70 countries have so far have presented their films to vie for the 90th Academy Awards in the best foreign language film category.

IMNA English Desk reports quoting from the official Oscar website: the participating films needed to be already screened in their home country. Then the filmmakers are supposed to submit films for the Academy Award by the 2nd October, 2017.

9 films will be selected as the preliminary stage, 5 of which will be nominated as the finalists.

Iran has picked 'Breath' directed by Narges Abyar as official submission to Oscar.

List of the submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is as follows:

- ‘Happy End’ by Michael Haneke from Austria

- ‘Pomegranate Orchard’ by Ilgar Najaf from Azerbaijan

- ‘Glory’ by Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov from Bulgaria

- ‘A Fantastic Woman’ by Sebastián Lelio from Chili

- ‘Guilty Men’ by Iván Gaona from Colombia          

- ‘Quit Staring at My Plate’ by Hana Jušic from Croatia

- ‘Ice Mother’ by Bohdan Sláma from Czech Republic                

- ‘Woodpeckers’ by José María Cabral from Dominican Republic      

- ‘You Disappear’ by Peter Schønau Fog from Denmark

- ‘Alba’ by Anna Christian Barragan from Ecuador

Other countries include Eqypt, Estonia, France, Finland, Gorgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Iran, Ireland, island, Israel, Japan, Cambodia, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Britain, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam, Albania, Algeria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bolivia, and Brazil.

The award giving ceremony for the 90th Academy Awards in the best foreign language film sector will be held on March 4th, 2018.
