Iran to host 2019 World Blood Donor Day

Regarding, Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization's capabilities and its international achievements and also being pioneer in the region, the country has been suggested to host 2019 World Blood Donor Day.

Representative of World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) suggested holding event in Iran.

Every year on June 14, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

World Blood Donor Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Hepatitis Day, and World AIDS Day.

Iran blood donation index is 27 people out of 1000 people.

Over 2 million people donate blood in Iran annually to help those who need.
