Iran planning to boost food tourism

IRNA – Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) planned to promote food tourism by holding food festivals across the country to attract domestic and international tourists, it was reported on Thursday.

The CHTHO which is in charge of tourism in Iran, had held regional food festival for the first time in Kermanshah Province, western Iran, last year, said Deputy Head of CHTHO Ali Khaksari.

This year's food festival, he added, is being held in Hamedan Province, mid-west Iran, from August 9-11.

Speaking to the Islamic republic News Agency (IRNA), the official noted that the Iranian traditional food festivals are organized to introduce healthy Iranian traditional cuisines and their recipes as well as unique Iranian spices to the domestic and international tourists.

Khaksari said that best brands of the Iranian foods, hotels, inns, and restaurants also participated in the three-day festival.

Iran decided to develop food tourism as culinary attractions are considered an important part of the tourism industry.

Traditional foods, as an intangible cultural heritage, have always been the center of attention for foreign tourists as food is among the most memorable part of any trip.
