700 worn-out taxis renovated/ Isfahan

IMNA reports: Air pollution, as a real health hazard for citizens, is one of the major problems in metropolises like Isfahan.

Various factors affect this pollution, great percent of which is related to both public & personal transportation.

Renovating and updating this worn-out fleet helps lessening such urban problems deeply.

There exist 90 thousand worn-out taxis in the country at the time being. Out of the total, 60 thousand are Peykans which need to be replaced by new cars.

An Isfahani citizen says to IMNA reporter: "Despite Peykans, some old Peugeots are also driving in the city that are so unsafe, they are really in need of being renewed."

Another citizen feels sympathy for the hardworking cabbies who are in bad financial situations. "They should be provided with special facilities in this regard", the citizen added.

Isfahan taxi fleet gets 2 years younger

Isfahan taxi fleet has always made efforts to cut down on air pollution problems of Isfahan metropolis and to bring welfare to drivers' and passengers' lives.

Deputy Director of Isfahan taxi fleet, Hossein Jafari, addressed IMNA reporter: Renewing the taxi fleet is high on the municipality's urban agenda.

"800 taxis were renewed and 700 worn-out ones were removed from the whole fleet", Hossein Jafari announced.

Although renewing the internal transportation fleet requires time and managing short-term & long-term projects, quick and short-term programs can resolve numerous problems. Bank facilities, for instance, could be a fast and effective approach to the issue.

The Deputy Director says: regarding the problem, a 20-million-toman loan is given to each taxi driver, with the profit of 16 %. The old taxies are also bought by the government at a price of 5 million tomans.

Undoubtedly, taxis play significant roles in reaching goals of financial issues esp. in the field of tourism. In addition, implementing programs in the mentioned areas is not possible with over-15-year-old taxis.

It is worthy of saying that enjoying high-quality taxis with less air pollutants in Isfahan metropolis is among the obvious rights of the citizens. So allocating budgets to such matters should be considered as investing for people's health, promoting the society's cultural level, as well as raising incomes.
