Rate of Pistachio harvesting in Badrud gardens decreased by 70 percent

"This year's spring frost is the main factor of decreasing the pistachio harvesting," the director of Natanz agricultural Jihad organization said.

Isfahan (IMNA) – "The process of pistachio harvesting of Badrud gardens with an area of 500 hectares has been finished," Abdolreza Mahdi Badi said. "Concerning the weather of Badrud, pistachio is one of the garden products that has been cultivated since many years ago, and now the area under pistachio cultivation has reached to 1,300 of which about 500 hectares have been fertilized so far," he said.

"Pistachio has a high resistance in adverse environmental conditions as it is a drought- resistance and salt tolerant plant. If measures such as pollination, suitable nutrition, and on time fighting against pests carry out properly, significant products will be achieved," he noted.

"It is predicted that, this year about 4.5 tons of pistachio will be harvested of Badrud lands; this statistics has been reduced by 70 percent in comparison to the last year," he continued. "Frostbite, incorrect insemination, and the temperature fluctuations are the reasons behind decreasing the pistachio production in Badrud," he emphasized

"The most cultivated types of pistachio in this tropical area are jumbo pistachio (Kalleghouchi), long pistachio (Ahmadaghaee), round pistachio (Fandoghi), and Akbari, that after harvesting, processing and packaging, they will delivered to Rafsanjan, Tehran, Isfahan, Qom and other cities," he noted.
