Hydroponics; only way to save agriculture during drought

"The agricultural system of Hydroponics is the only way to save the agriculture in the drought conditions by saving 70% of water consumption," the member of Iran's hydroponic society said.

Isfahan (IMNA) - Hydroponic is a method of growing plants without soil. In this method, specialists measure the nutritional requirements of the plant;By using mineral nutrient solution  in a water solvent, adding macro and micro chemicals and preserving the plant by preservative ingredients, there is no need to soil.

"Hydroponic system is running in open and closed models; the amount of water consumption will save by more than 70% by applying closed model" Behnam Sharibani said. "Currently, the open system is used more in Iran; water consumption is being reduced significantly by using this method," he continued.

"Hydroponic system is the only way to overcome the current crisis of water; farmers can obtain higher revenues in the shortest period of time by investing in hydroponic system; for example, an arable land in Orumieh with an area of 2,200 square meters has been cultivated only by a water tank," he said.

"Farmers have grown products like tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and lemons by using hydroponic method, and they got a good profit by exporting these products," he said.
