Small heritage guardian

The educational program of UNESCO world heritage was launched in 1994 as the special UNESCO project and has been continuing till now. This project gives young people the opportunity to contribute to conserve the natural and cultural heritages.

Isfahan (IMNA) - Actually, it is an attempt to encourage the future generation to contribute for conserving the heritage. It is also a response to the continuous threats that the world heritage is faced with. One of the activities that has been done in this regard is “Patrimonito’s World Heritage Adventures”. Patrimonito is a Spanish word which means “small heritage”. The character of “Patrimonito” is recognized as an international symbol for the World Heritage Education Programme.

The idea of "Patrimonito" was created by a group of Hispanic students at the workshop of the first world heritage youth forum in 1995 in Bergen, Norway. “Patrimonito” wants to promote the knowledge of conserving world heritage in the world.

In 2002, some animations titled “Patrimonito’s World Heritage Adventures” were created. In these animations, Patrimonito introduces world heritage sites and the related threats that they faced with; then provides some solutions for its conservation. In each episode of these animations, Patrimonito examines natural and cultural problems with the help of  children and teenagers and provides solutions for its management and conservation.

Such projects allow children and young people to learn about world heritage sites, history and culture of other lands, the environment and the importance of biodiversity conservation. By these activities, children and teenagers will become aware of the existing threats on the global sites. They will learn how to achieve unity in the global society and save our common global heritage. Likewise, the adequate contexts must be provided in Iran to introduce the national heritages of Iran to the world with the help of Iranian children!
