Operating Flights to Alnajaf Int’l Airport As Costly As European Airports

Secretary Iran's Aviation Companies Association Maqsoud Asadi Samani said: “operating flights to AlNajaf International Airport is as costly as operating flights to European Airports. Iran does not find it cost-effective and that is the reason why we transferred our flights to Baghdad.”

Samani stressed: “there is no political reasoning behind our decision. Our decision making was solely based on economic reasoning. Basically, it is a decision that airlines can make on their own and they logically chose to fly to more affordable airports.”

All Iranian airlines have decided to stop their flight to Najaf, Iraq, in summer 2017 as the result of a recent regulatory change that increased the cost of operating flights to AlNajaf Int’l Airport.

The secretary of Iran's Aviation Companies Association announced: “on top of the expenses of the handling services, fuel is more expensive in Najaf too. Jet fuel in Najaf costs 1.24 US dollar per gallon, which is also four times it costs us at Iran's airports”

Airlines tried to hold meeting with AlNajaf airport officials; their negotiations, however, could seal any discounts or bonus.
