Iran, Switzerland call for expansion of relations

The second round of talks between Iran and Switzerland kicked off on Friday in Bern during which both sides called for deepening and broadening of relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Swiss Deputy Foreign Minister Pascale Baeriswyl exchanged views on expansion of relations and cooperation between the two capitals in Friday. 

Both sides welcomed economic, political, scientific, education and environment achievements in the last year to prepare grounds for expansion of all out relations and cooperation between Iran and Switzerland. 

They also examined avenues to promote bilateral cooperation in fight against those destabilizing the region and fight against terrorism which is now turned into a global threat.

The Swiss deputy foreign minister extended condolences by the Swiss president and foreign minister over recent terrorist attacks in Tehran and sympathized with the bereaved families of the victims.

Two coordinated terrorist attacks was carried out against the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) and the mausoleum of the late Imam Knomeini in southern Tehran on June 7 killing 17 and injuring over 50 people.

The terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) has later claimed the responsibility for the attacks.

A number of terrorist cells were busted by Iran’s security forces after the fatal attacks.

The Swiss diplomat underlined importance of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) describing it as a significant achievement for the international community.

Meanwhile, Takht-Ravanchi, referred to latest developments in the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions and said Iran’s policy is based on expansion of cooperation to help restore peace and stability in the region and prevent expansion of tensions in the Middle East.
