Isfahan municipality solely bears the costs

Providing an amount of cost of public transportation vehicles is included among the primary duties of governments, but the government is ignoring the issue. The problem is the main barrier in development process of public transportation, however Isfahan municipality has made great efforts in this regard.

According to IMNA, based on the ministerial law, the cost of public transportation is borne by the government, municipalities, and citizens.

Over recent years, however, both people and the municipality have been paying their own parts, but the government disregards this issue, so that Isfahan municipality has paid for the government’s part too. This doubled cost paid by the municipality has prevented other parts of the city from developing.

Jamali Nejad continued: “Although the city is suffering from an economic recession, Isfahan municipality has considered a budget of over 250 billion tomans for purchasing Euro/4 buses. The bus brand belongs to Sweden and in our country is produced by “Oghabe Zarafshan” company.

“Such buses have the Euro/4 and Euro/5 standards as well as highest environmental standards. They are also equipped with diesel particulate filters, which release water steam rather than polluted smoke”, Mehdi Jamali Nejad explained.

Speaking of 12 BRT lines that will be set up in Isfahan by the Iranian year 1400 (2021), Jamali Nejad said: “150 Euro buses will be utilized in BRT fleet.”

Finally, Isfahan mayor pointed out: “We hope that such buses, considered among the most modern vehicles around the world, will meet all the needs of Isfahan regarding public transportation.”

“Of course we do not overlook the process of restoring the old fleet. Some of these old buses will be replaced by new ones and some others will be developed”, he declared.
